Tāwhitiwhiti – Part of Billion Trees Programme; Matariki Tu Rākau
At a ceremony held last year the Matekuare Whānau Trust came part of the Matariki Tu Rākau Programme to increase tree planting across New Zealand. The overall goal is to double the current planting rate to reach one billion trees planted by 2028.
The project will deliver huge benefits for the Tāwhitiwhiti local environment, our whānau , our communities, and our local economy.
The focus is on making it easier to plant the right tree, in the right place, for the right purpose.
The trees will integrate into the Tāwhitiwhiti landscape to complement and diversify our existing land use. The planting of the 1000 trees provided by Matariki Tu Rākau is now complete.
